The 2009 "Festival Kreol des Seychelles" is a hymn to Creole culture! Taking place from the 23rd to the 31st of October, this event features various cultural activities. In addition, Creole World Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, the 28th of October.
Friday the 23rd of October at 17h30 will see the official launching of the 24th Festival Kreol in Seychelles, the main cultural event of the year. A feature from the young ( the « Pipili Kreol ») too has been planned to take place at this event which will be held at the International Conference Centre of the Seychelles (ICCS) in Victoria, Mahé. The official opening coincides with the market "Bazar Kreol" at Victoria. The Bazar Kreol will be open throughout the festival between 10 am to 10 pm.
The programme of the Festival Kreol extends over 9 days, from Friday the 23rd to Saturday the 31st of October 2009. Shows, theatre, mass, picnic, dancing, quiz competitions, talent shows, fashion shows, a Creole ball and various expositions are featured on the programme of this special event, set up to honor the Creole way of life in the Seychelles in its entirety.
It must be noted that Creole World Day will be celebrated on Wednesday the 28th of October, with the participation of Vincent Meriton, Minister of Community Development, Youth, Sports and Culture. A special welcome is reseved for all passengers arriving at Pointe Larue International Airport on this day and a discussion will take place around the topic: « Le Kréol, Fondation de notre société ». At 19h, the national theatre of Mont Fleuri will show the play "Parcours avek Monsieur Patrick Prosper". (The public may attend the play for Rs 50 per person)
Several other theatre plays rotating around Creoles and Creole lifestyle will be shown at the Festival Kreol. The exposition " Jeunes Artistes du Monde Créolophone" (Young artists of the Creole world) will be open throughout the festival from 9 am to 2 pm.
Please note the following dates and times of the shows :
-"Moman Kreativite", comedy show for students at ICCS on Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th October at 2 pm. (entrance fees Rs 35-for children and Rs 50-for adults).
-Show "Voyaz" at Eden House on Eden Island on Thursday 29th of October at 7 pm. (Rs 700 per person)
-Show "Le Roi et la Reine Sega" at ICCS on Saturday the 31st October at 8 pm. (Rs 100 per person)
The Festival Kreol will hence be an occasion to celebrate Creole culture through several highlighted activities. Various partners are expected to particiate, notably cultural groups from accross the archipelago such as Modesti, Kanmtole, Comedie, Leve Tradisyon or Zez.
